The Last Gaze

She spent years being feared for a curse she never asked for. Every face turned away. Every visitor came armed. Every man who entered her halls already believed he knew what she was. Eventually, she stopped caring whether they left.

The palace around her emptied. Vines climbed the stone. Dust settled over rooms built for people who would never return. Her serpents became her only company, curling around her shoulders while the world beyond the walls slowly forgot her name.

Then one man came without a weapon. He did not ask her to hide her face or call her monster.

He only asked her to look at him. She warned him once..... He stepped closer. So she opened her eyes...

The tears came before the stone did and she stayed beside him until the transformation was complete, staring at the face of the only person who had ever wanted to see hers.

After that, she closed her eyes for good. Not out of mercy. Because there was no one left worth looking at.
